If you're looking for clean, warm, cheap and friendly accommodation on Arran, book this. It's really that simple. ||||For the price, I wasn't expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised. When we arrived, the reception is well sign-posted. Although there was nobody there, the staff bustling about the cabins were very helpful. We were early but our cabin/room was ready and we were shown where to go, shown the cookhouse for cooking/eating and shown where to get the wifi password. So far, so good.||||The room is small but we weren't expecting palatial. It was well kitted out with a tv, kettle and tea and coffee - just what you'd expect in any b&b type accommodation. It even had a small table and chairs outside the room. In the centre area is a cookhouse with fridges, microwaves and electric hobs, as well as loads of pots, pans and utensils - similar to any hostel I've been in before. There're also couple of gas barbecues, one at the cookhouse and one on the lawns for use by the guests.||||The lawns are immaculate, with tables, benches and chairs set out to use and sit and have a drink at.||||All in all, it was everything that we needed for a base to go exploring Arran.||||If there were any minor niggles, it would be that the bed was a bit creaky and the walls a bit thin. But you're not paying top dollar, so no complaints.
Two night stay for a couples get away we stayed in the standard double with was neat, clean and modern but we would say the bed was a bit small and on a warm night was a bit uncomfortable. The grounds and hotel itself was beautiful and the view was amazing! If you are planning to stay here pay a bit more for a large double with sea view. The property is at the top of a steep uphill driveway tho so if you have a car its fine but a bit of a slog with cases if you are on foot like we were. Worth it for the location tho
Great stay at this hotel which has nice rooms in the main building and more basic self catering cabins for a budget stay. I had continental breakfast but my friends had the Scottish breakfast including award winning peppery haggis and avocado. Lovely views and the owner even entertained us with lovely Scottish and Irish folk songs. A good value hotel, but unfortunately no bar although we brought our own wine & sat in the large lounge.
I stayed here for one night and was very impressed with the cleanliness, comfort and views in the room. The staff were very friendly and had a lovely breakfast. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to pubs and shops in the village and has fantastic views of the holy Isle. I came here in November and was blessed with fab weather but would come again in the Summer too. Lovely wee hotel.
I really enjoyed my stay at Altachorvie. The location is great if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the ferry terminal, it is very relaxing and serene. The staff was very helpful. The cabin that I stayed in was very comfortable and it has everything that you would need plus the price is very affordable (couldn't comment on the actual hotel). I definitely recommend this place if you have your own mode of transportation, if you don't have a car it's a bit harder to get around as you'll have to rely on the busses that comes around very infrequently, it's not an issue if you have a lot of time on your hands but becomes an issue if you don't have many days, but luckily the owner was so helpful that she even drove me to my destination because I was short on time. It's a lovely property and a wonderful island.
It's nice! The location is beautiful, with super nice window views. The rooms are small but very well kept. It would earn a 5 from us if it provided some kind of breakfast, or even vending machines, as the area is very quiet and a little remote. The slope leading up to the buildings is quite steep, so older visitors without cars may have trouble.
Lovely place with large, comfortable rooms. Rooms are spaced far apart so noise from other guests in non existant. Staff were friendly and very helpful, breakfast was mediocre but hardly the best part of the island anyway!
Booked by my daughter as a wee break we arrived in Arran in February, very cold . The hotel was lovely , old and in in time with the build we found the decor just right. Our room was amazing , very large with amazing views over the Holy Isle it was stunning . Basically Arran was shut down on our visit due to time of year and that has colored my view on visit to Arran but can't complain about accommodation, even though they didn't do a proper breakfast the staff i.e. Karen was exemplary, nothing was a problem for her and she is a sure fire asset to the hotel , thank you Karen x
