Amazing family atmosphere. Parking on location and on the street. Seats indoors and outdoors with booths and the classic bar inside. This place feels like a warm hug when eating there. I am very happy to recommend it to others.
Food has large servings of delicious food. They really have something for everyone. Of course, amazing BBQ but also dogs and their deep fried burger. Desserts, too, are amazing, and they offer a selection of local homemade brownies, too.
This Northern VA BBQ hotspot has been at the top of several VA BBQ lists for several years running. Having been around since 1949, it is decidedly local and has that vibe without question. Super casual. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Full service with a smile - pay at the counter after the meal. I did the meats (chopped brisket) +3 with baked beans, mac and cheese, and the stew. The chopped brisket was moist and full of smoky flavor. The mac is unique with huge noodles and a nice cheese sauce and the stew was simply amazing - Brunswick style - just excellent on a cold day. I also went with the bread pudding - hot, gooey, cinnamon roll pieces - almost monkey bread style - really good. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. Pretty easy to see why they were at the top end of some of those lists.
Delicious! The staff was very welcoming and attentive. The vibe of the restaurant is very small town feel. Prices are reasonable. Lots of outdoor seating to bring your dog and water bowls available for them.
Came in for lunch on a weekday and they were moderately busy, which is good to see. Lived in the area for many years and this was my first time ever coming here. I love BBQ and smoked meats, but never heard rave reviews about this place, so when I had the opportunity to try it recently, I did.
Service was friendly and helpful. The menu is interesting with lots of fried food, such as fried hot dogs and hamburgers (never heard of a fried hamburger) and the brisket plate I got was chopped brisket which was sauced. Odd way for a true smokehouse to serve brisket, as it’s never supposed to have sauce on it, until the person eating it adds sauce.
The brisket tasted decent, far from the best I’ve ever had, but definitely nowhere near the worst. The plate came with a nicely toasted hamburger bun, so I made a sandwich and that tasted good. The sides were really good.
Overall, not a bad visit… I’d come back.

We've loved this place for forever. Any time I drive on 95 stopping is mandatory. The people are great and the BBQ is delicious!
Perfect no frills BBQ just the way it should be. Great service and our meals came out quickly. The candied jalapeños on my brisket sandwich were really something!
On Route 1 in Fredericksburg, VA, stands a magnificent country restaurant! Small and old-timey, yet packed with fabulous smoked pork and smokehouse atmosphere, I found it in the late 70s when 2 Virginia State Troopers recommended it. (If Police, Fire or Rescue recommend a restaurant, you KNOW it's good!!) I stop there now whenever I am anywhere near Fredericksburg!! The food is delicious, staff are welcoming and very attentive, and you can smell the goodness even before you enter the building. Try it.
