I’m hard to please when it comes to Igbo soups but Alaowerri surpassed my expectations. I ate Oha soup with poundo yam. I’ve never eaten Oha soup this good in London. Also got beef suya from here. The suya was so tasty.
The food portions are huge.
The guy who attended to us was warm and friendly too.
I love the ambience in the restaurant as well.
I’m defo revisiting.
Never had isi ewu before, so I can't compare. Staff are attentive. Average nigerian restaurant. The afrobeat music was good choices.
Our experience would have been a nice one if it wasn't for the food. The service was nice and the staff seemed friendly. However, the food turned our five-day vacation in the UK into a nightmare. Their pounded yam and egusi were the worst food poisoning we ever experienced. We all had diarrhea for four days straight up. The worst part of it was my two toddlers (2&4) had to experience this God-forsaken evil too! I'm not sure how these people prepare or preserve their meals, but they are not doing something right, and they need to do better.
Really great Nigerian restaurant. Space is small so plan your visit against/ahead of peak times. The food is delicious and the owner is a very nice and friendly man. The service is great and I will definitely be coming back. The isiewu in particular is amazing! Honestly, the food there is really good.
A really great experience! Lovely authentic local tasting food, and a really hardworking and attentive owner. Other diners made my experience so special; guiding me through the menu and other local restaurants that meet different requirements. There was a real character there who was temporarily covering reception who made the experience dramatic and unforgettably unique ????.
I ordered the Isiewu, local salad, fisherman's soup with pounded yam, snail, and got to taste the abacha! In addition to my obvious leftovers, I ordered the guinea fowl suya, beef suya to take away, both of which were really tasty! Thanks to the gentleman who ordered and paid for the jellof rice to take away for my mum...she loved it! ????????
Well worth a visit if you're looking for authentic local Igbo food in a local non-fancy restaurant. I'm quality and authenticity over ambiance, and Alaowerri fully met my requirements! The fanciest restaurants in Nigeria/UK don't often serve the best local tasting food, so why should I expect that here. My only regret was forgetting to try the Oha soup. ????
Call and order prior to arrival so you have less of a wait, as everything is cooked on order! I ordered the Isiewu a couple of hours before arriving, and went wild once I saw the menu adding last minute meals as detailed.
Went here for a birthday celebration. Was received warmly and the staff did their best to make sure we were ok. The food was amazing as usual and you will definitely not leave here hungry. I’ve been here a few times. Still remains my favourite restaurant.
Staff approach was so bad that the manager was screaming when I noticed and reported a dirty bathroom, which was actually smelling into the seating area. The place is not clean, fish was served burnt, price was expensive and ridiculous. I will recommend you check for other African places, which are 1 to 2 miles within.
Great food but the rest room/toilets is one of the worst I've seen in my life!!! And because of this I can never go there again nor advice anyone to go there. You guys have been around for a long time, you should know the value of cleanliness and near toilets especially in a restaurant. Completely renovate your toilets to standard please not that dirty site I saw there. Imagine coming there with other nationals to eat and they see that eyesore of a toilet.
