Stopped in for some Italian beef while in Chicago! One of the best Italian beef sandwiches we have ever had. Highly recommend getting the sandwich wet, so worth it. Their Chicago dog was delectable and the fries are some of the best we’ve ever had! Can’t wait to come back!
What an awesome Chicago food experience! Get the Italian beef sandwich dipped and you won’t regret this beautiful and messy experience. Add the beef in a cup for bonus points and extra protein! The prices are very fair given how much beef you get. It’s a fun and messy sandwich spot and a must try if you’re in Chicago. I would go back in a heartbeat. Check out my photos.
I'm town for a work conference and wanted food that was true to Chicago. I heard that this place had one of the best Italian beef sandwichs. And confession...this was the first ever Italian beef sandwich that I've ever had....good grief it did not disappoint!
This thing was one of the best dishes that I've ever eaten PERIOD....not just sandwiches. The beef was tender, juicy and perfectly sauced with the gravy. The hot peppers added just the right balance of spice. I wish I could eat this every single day but you would have to roll me out of there.

The Italian beef sandwich with fries was delicious that is worth trying at least once since it’s a Chicago classic. The fries were also nice and crispy, and seasoned just right. Also, the service was relatively fast since I got my food almost immediately after ordering.
The Italian beef was good and prepared as requested. I was good with the regular portion which I thought was generous. I wouldn’t dip it because I think it would make it heavy on the stomach.
Prices were reasonable compared to near by restaurants.
Staff were helpful with providing suggestions.
This was my first time visiting Chicago. A cousin recommended Al's and said we wouldn't regret it. He was right! Three in my group ordered the regular beef, dipped. It was delicious and filled us up. The last person in my group ordered the Buffalo burger and was wishing there was more sauce. If we ever visit Chicago again, we will absolutely go to Al's again.
My first Italian beef and it was better than expected! I ordered it wet with provolone and they added the hot peppers. I was not disappointed with the accidental addition, it was delightful and had a little kick to it! I might have to get another one before I leave town.
The location is a corner spot and pretty big. Clean bathrooms. I have had other Italian beef in the area and I have some comparing thoughts. I thought the peppers were good spice and the bread had medium structure for being dipped. I’m not sure this is possible but my experience was that the meat was overly flavorful making the saltiness shine more than the sandwich as a whole. Overall great, kind, and fast service definitely makes up for it.
