I was really looking forward to getting a beef combo from Al's, but I was very disappointed with the quality and price.
I had the jumbo beef combo.
It had very little beef.
The sausage was split in half and spread across the small beef sandwich.
It was also super greasy, and there's no bathroom to wash your hands.
The beef combo cost me about $21.00 plus tax, with no peppers, fries, or any sides.
They labeled themselves Al's #1, but I respectably disagree.
There's plenty of better and cheaper beef places in the Chicagoland area.
Fun atmosphere in the heart of Little Italy near University Village near UIC Chicago campus. Lots of students. This place has a nice historic feel esp when you see pics of politicians and local first responders (BTW you get 15% off if you show student ID or if you are a first responder police officer or firefighter). The food is okay but it’s the people and the area that make it fun. The hot dog w fries were a decent deal for $5.25 plus tax. Fries alone are $4.30 so I thought why not get a hot dog in addition for $0.95. The fries looked soggy but they weren’t and instead they were lightly crispy which I liked. The hotdog wasn’t all beef. But when ur hungry you will enjoy it. FREE parking in their own lot. That’s a huge plus when you have street parking w meters til about 8pm to 10pm (depends on the area) like most places in Chicago. Also outdoor seating. Enjoy!
The original and still the best.
Sound like a pro when you order.
A large beef hot and wet with fries and a Coke.
You can take a Chicgo guy out of the city (moved to NYC) but yiu can never take the Chicago out of the guy.

Great place. Everything about this place is awesome. Italian beef dipped... and fries. Even the diet Pepsi was great. Not cheap. About $20 per person unless you share. But we were glad to make this stop.
Something about the Italian Beef from Al’s! Delicious!! Wet with hot giardiniera is the way to go. And the fries.. so good! Dip in the giardiniera oil to add another level of yum.
Definitely worth the trip from AZ. Was on my to eat places. Did not disappoint. Went to the one in Little Italy. Great spot in the neighborhood. Got the spicy full do with cheese and fries!! Highly suggest you try it out!!
I've been a vegetarian for almost 20 years so I have no frame of reference for italian beefs but with that in mind: I think it was really good! I've always thought it would be so nice to get an ice from Marios with an Italian beef from Al's and I finally got to experience it! I added the hot peppers and cheese, dipped of course. Can't wait to go back again!
OMG, best sandwiches in Chicago. Al's big beef, hot peppers, extra provolone cheese & dunked in gravy. It will melt in your mouth. You have to eat it at the restaurant if you get it dunked to get maximum potential. Try it, you won't regret it.
