Best KPortal Reviews

Sign Says Ichiban (Gonzales). Been here countless times. Always fast and exactly what I ordered. Friendly, thorough staff. Comfortable indoor seating. Stocked bar. Lots of wine options. I highly recommend the Rock and Roll sushi rolls, steak hibachi, and shrimp tempura.
The place is nice and fancy is not like the other sushi restaurants, the atmosphere is more formal than casual attire. We had dinner but it was pretty fast like they want us out of there as soon is possible, and looking at this place is a bit more expensive than other places, the sushi is good but still sushi you can find another place with better prices. For me this one is more expensive. The waiter was nice and friendly and got out sushi fast. The food was ok.
Huge restaurant with a beautiful and elegant dining room. Excellent, professional, and friendly service. Sushi meals are beautifully prepared. And there are many delicious offerings in their menu. They also serve lunch specials until 3 PM when you get to enjoy some of their menu offerings at a lower price. They give very good portions so you get your money’s worth. They have free WiFi so you can stay connected while you dine. There’s ample parking in their easy in-and-out corner location.
I love this place for two reasons. This was the first meal I had after a mouth op and the staff are so friendly that when I told them she made sure I had enough clear soup. So I went back when I could enjoy the food and loved it all
Awesome experience. The miso soup is so good. And the hibachi was very good. Our chef Steve was the best!! And these jalapeño bombers with crabmeat was good as well.
The food is always good here. I don't think I've had anything that I didn't like. I got the Ichiban lunch special with teriyaki ribeye, teriyaki chicken, and shrimp and vegetable tempura. It also came with fried rice, and you can get a soup or a salad. I got the miso soup. I got a Philadelphia roll to complete my meal. Everything was really good, and worth what I paid for it!
TL;DR: Go to Oki Japan or Sushi Masa instead.
THE GOOD:
Not gonna lie. They have the best sushi selection of any all you can eat sushi place I’ve ever been to. I was excited. Our waitress was amazing.
THE BAD:
Hard to explain but all the sushi tasted stale even though it was made fresh. The crab, the rice, the crunchy tempura, and even the fish (????) all tasted stale or like they hadn’t been stored properly. The worst part of my meal was the smoked salmon sashimi. It was so oily and slimy that it tasted like it came from a can. We had lunch 10 hours ago and I’m already feeling sick.
Another note: at the bottom of the ordering menu for the all you can eat, there is a note that says “if the server fails to properly explain the rules of all you can eat, the server is responsible for the cost of the leftover food and it will be deducted from their salary.”
This is disgusting behavior & reflective of terrible management. This practice is illegal in the state of Louisiana, and frankly any business that would even consider doing this to their employees should be shunned by the community.
This place seriously has the potential to be the best all you can eat sushi restaurant in the whole greater Baton Rouge area. But an all you can eat sushi restaurant’s potential is worth its weight in stale crunchy tempura.
If you’re looking for a consistently good all you can eat sushi restaurant, just go to Oki Japan across the road. Less than a 5 minute drive.
Toxic manager will force this location to close. After waiting 45 minutes for half of our order after the first half was set on the table, the manager was unwilling to negotiate to a fair discount on the ticket. Despite it not being about the money, her customer service skills were the poorest I’ve seen in any establishment. I was polite and calm, so it was not personal. Her name is Ms. Edwards for any reference, and surprisingly she stated that they cannot please every customer. The staff appeared to be lacking, but having the hostesses quarrel upon entering, then have a young man take our order only for the real waitress to pick the table up, and the disorganized food prep was part of the managerial issues. The food was average, definitely not Ichiban quality. This is not a customer service atmosphere that our family will ever provide economic support to again. And we tipped as though it was good service, 20%, since the staff should not suffer from its leadership. Ms. Edwards grudgingly gave us 15% off the ticket, even with my voicing that was not an acceptable consideration. It may be lack of foresight on Ichiban’s leadership not to give management the authority to do the right thing.
