I am in the process of restoring a 1955 DOT bike which has a British Anzani engine. It is a 250cc two stroke twin. I started this project 12 months ago and have been struggling to find someone to help with the engine. I have found someone but they in turn needed help with sorting out the crankshaft. I had two and the plan was to make one good one.
Roy came to the rescue. Roy rebuilt the crank and wanted to know more about the bike and how I was getting on with its restoration. His workshop is a fascinating place to visit. It's not a shiny glass and steel establishment its a proper workshop with I guess some stories to tell. Fantastic to find an engineer who seems to be able to fix anything.
Thoroughly Recommended.
Roy was kind enough to under take a crank repair that was unknown to him, he could not match the con rod and big end pin. I managed to source the part from Taiwan via the USA, And Roy assembled and dispatched the completed crank the same day as the part’s arrived. I am very great full for the quick turn around, and the cost saving against a new crank.
Highly recommend ACME service
Roy rebuilt the crank and re bored the cylinder from a 1978 Dt175mx. Superb service definitely knows his job and turned around quicker than expected. Most definitely recommend.
Roy was a very nice guy,an engineer with a very good knowledge of motorcycles.
He did all the work needed on my Suzuki gt250 engine, rebore new pistons, con rods, bearings and seals.
He would be my number one choice if I needed any more engine work.
Nice these days to talk to the person directly who is going to work on your engine.
Good value for money and a very quick turn around.
Thank you very much Roy.
Massive Thankyou to Roy for rebuilding my gas gas ec200 engine.
I contacted Roy to rebuild a seized ec 200 engine, everything was explained to me on the first phone call and I arranged for the engine to be delivered to him.
I was kept updated throughout the whole process, and pictures of the damaged and replaced parts.
There was a slight delay due to the gas gas parts being delivered from abroad but I left Roy to it.
I decided to take the trip from Leicestershire to Dudley to collect the engine as I wanted to meet Roy and personally thank him.
Outstanding service and value for money, will not hesitate to recommend and use again.
Thankyou
Roy and his son have just completed some work for my Suzuki T350. I just wanted to say how refreshing it was to see that proper old school engineering is alive and well. I had the crank bearings and seals replaced, they also rebored the cylinders and supplied some quality pistons. During the process they kept me up to date with progress and chatted through all the options. They are clearly passionate about their work.
I would like to thank Roy and his team for their high quality rebuild of my classic Suzuki GT250A. The quality of workmanship is as good as it gets, better than new . With Roy's knowledge of 2 strokes I would with out question recommended him to rebuild your classic bike. Thanks again Acme Motorcycles
I met Roy at the Stafford show about five years ago and got chatting because we both owned Bridgestone motorbikes.
Over the years, he has done a variety of mechanical and engineering work for me, while also offering advice when I needed to diagnose a fault.
Roy is a very capable engineer. He recently modified the cylinder head and rocker cover on my BSA 250 with longer and wider studs, with a nut underneath and double nutted at the top. This prevents them from pulling through the cylinder head. (A common problem on this particular machine).
More recently, he welded a crack which appeared on my Bridgestone 100 TMX tank. He did a good job and it's not noticeable unless you know where to find the weld.
I think Roy secretly likes the difficult jobs that no one else will take on. I've seen 1920's engines on the bench and Roy machines a modern piston from a VW Beetle, or something like that, so it fits and gets it running again.
If the original part is unobtainable, he can often find something that's a close match and machine it to fit – very clever.
Roy is very good to know because not many people take on the kind of jobs that he does. I would always take my bike and engines there for him to sort out.
