Excellent dining experience this time around! ||My wife and I came here a good couple of years ago (-ish) and never planned to go back, based on the way the owner/manager at the time spoke to their staff (not clear who it was but clearly someone who thought themselves an authority!). The food was pretty basic and they were so disrespectful to their staff that we both left agreeing we'd never line their pockets again (looking at other reviews, we were not alone!).||This was very different. We had booked for the new Sunday afternoon Indian buffet for 4 adults and 2 children. Was so good! Great quality food and the service was fantastic. I'd phoned up in advance to check if it was worth me having the buffet or ordering off the menu (veggie) and they went to the trouble of adding two extra veggie curries to the buffet for our visit. The new manager was across very often, always checking our food was fine and he even put on an entire extra cheese pizza for the kids for nothing (and a cheeky wee extra fruit shoot too). Great service and he clearly cared about improving what is evidently a 'mixed' reputation for the restaurant. It may be the same owners as before (not sure) but they've made a good decision bringing a manager in who cares about good service! ||Great food, great service, we'd go back next week happily!
Went in on a Monday night and welcomed by the manager. Immediately made to feel welcome.||We had a couple of beers and decided to order food. I never imagined the menu would have such a large choice. Curries, kebabs, pizzas and a variety of side dishes. ||The food was very good and the portion size was brilliant. ||Decent value for what you get. ||There was free pool and a free jukebox that night which was also a nice touch.
First visit since the change of ownership. Only popped on for a drink and a quick look. Good service at the bar on arrival. Still serving McEwan's 80/- beer, so that's a plus mark right away. The food was always good there, however, I have not tried it since the change. Good prices at the moment. Didn't see much difference in decor since the ownership change. Hopefully this will be a success as it is a popular place in Carnoustie.
Couldn't help but hear the way the owners talk to their staff, it must be an awful atmosphere for them. I was told by a former employee that the owners also keep all the tips. Disgusting!!|The food is not great and the choice of beers are basic. I will not be going back, the owners have ruined what used to be one of my favourite places to go.
Outstanding meal and service.
First time visiting this pub-restaurant and it won’t be the last! The menu is very extensive.
Chilli doner kebab was incredible! 10/10.
My partner loved her curry and naan! Both my daughters loved their meals and can’t wait to return for another :)
Closed as an Indian restaurant/ bar, re-opens as exactly the same !! Obviously a weeks closure isn’t enough to complete any kind of refurb as advertised, but I did assume for a little more than the just the wall border paint to have changed from Red to Green, but that looks like it. Light bulb still hanging out of the gents toilet ceiling obviously not a priority either. Indian restaurant to open next week apparently, just what we need in a town full of them. Pool table still there, juke box too. I did hope for so much better from a pub with the biggest customer catchment area in the town, people walk past here to get to all the other pubs. Let’s see how it goes, but not a great start.
Had a meal in the restaurant tonight for the first time since they’ve reopened. Food was excellent and the service was superb! Will definitely be back!
What used to be a decent pub has now gone down the drain. Since they added a pool table and a juke box full of rap music the regulars have abandoned the place. There are now no regulars and the place is empty. Same lady behind the bar night after night, appears they only have one member of staff. Restaurant has been closed for the last 4 weeks. Freezing cold as they attempt to save some money, although the bar lady gets a heater. It’s a pity as this place has been a well known, and well used, drinking establishment for the last 50 years. If the owners don’t act soon it’ll be closed by Christmas. Very sad as it has a massive catchment area, people are walking past it to go to other pubs.
