The hot pot here is really delicious and there is a self-service area. Our lunch was affordable and delicious. We chose Premium and the Lunch special with a 15% off discount. Sukiyaki is suitable for shabu-shabu, and the original pork bone soup is suitable for blanching vegetables and drinking. The Prime Angus beef and Lamb shoulder are both good, the White shrimp is big and fresh, and the fish fillet tastes delicious. The service staff are very active and friendly. They will take the initiative to introduce the dining environment and methods in advance. The food is served very quickly and there is no need to wait for a long time like other hot pot restaurants. However, the only drawback is that there are a little few side dishes and hot pot ingredients.
Such a fantastic lunch experience at 101 in El Monte.
Decided to finally check out this place for some lunch on Sunday and glad I made it in. Quality food & great service always make for a great meal.
Went with the premium option which of course gets you the premium meat & seafood option. If you want a good contrast of flavors I definitely recommend you get the split pot with sukiyaki & the mala which worked out so well. Very good sweetness & enough salt savor flavor are great for cooking your proteins in. Add in the other soup, it was a good amount of spice but not overbearing.
Of course had to order all the premium meats & they were not a letdown. Sliced paper thin, nice marbling & cooks in no time. The shrimp pre-skewered makes for easy cooking. You've gotta order the proteins (meats & seafood) from the server & you help yourself to the self-serve area where you'll find the usuals (veggies, fish balls, noodles, sauces, etc.). Be sure to get some wagyu fried rice. It was better and fresher than I thought it'd be and pairs well with of course more meat.
Ended the meal with some ice cream which basically tasted like Thrifty ice cream, which is a good thing.
Service was exceptional and really makes me miss how some places just don't have customer service anymore. Zoe (or Zoey?) was so friendly and attentive the whole time. I just loved her overall personable demeanor and she made sure we were never without food.
It's much smaller than I thought but I think that's because I had the size of All That Shabu or Shabuya in mind. But I kinda think the smaller size works better in terms of service & timing. Nice, clean interior which is always appreciated. I could be wrong but I don't think they have a parking lot, but even so, I found street parking east to right out front.
When in El Monte or nearby and you have an appetite, be sure to check them out.
Special shout out to Lily, a great server who provided exceptional service to my group and I. The place itself is so clean, organized, well-lit and the options for meat are so many, it truly is worth the drive. This all-you-can-eat hotpot place can easily compete with other, more fancy ones, from West L.A. or KTown, that's how good it is. From the meat selection to the amount of toppings, it's all there. Unlimited refill on drinks too. Truly worth it.
So excited to discover a new all-you-can-eat hotpot place in El Monte. I decided to choose the Prime option for $48.95/person. I really think this was worth it because I was able to choose some high quality seafood (abalone, oyster, shrimp, mussel) and US wagyu meats (chuck cross, brisket, and chuck eye). I also enjoyed the self-serve bar where I could choose my own vegetables, meatballs, crabmeat, and sauces. They also provided fresh made tea and ice cream for appetizer. Overall, this dining experience was totally worth it!
Found this little shabu spot around the area - although it’s small the food selection is great! I love that you can choose two different broths at once and all of their ingredients are fresh. I opted for the prime option which was so worth it. You get unlimited seafood (abalone was so good) and wagyu meats - definitely worth the price. Their Jasmine flavored soy milk is one of my favorite drinks! Love that it’s soy milk based. Overall a great spot if you want to splurge and treat yourself to some great quality shabu!
If you are dining alone, this is the place. Having more than a table for a party of 4 may be a challenge given personal pot/induction stove setup. There are two pricing/meat choices. $30 and up. Each meat order is a single serving. There is no ready to eat food available (except ice cream) - relative to other places on Valley Blvd a couple miles west - you have to cook before having a bite. Didn't care much for the drinks. The sides- meatballs, yam bundle, vegies, fish squares, are there self service. Satay, peanut, among other spicy hot sauces available. Price is fair for the lunch service. I won't come here for the regular price. Beef + lamb are ok. Skip the chicken. Fish was great. Service was great probably because for a good portion of a weekday lunch, I was the only customer. Be prepared to face the tipping question on the spot as you pay with the mobile payment at the table in the presence of the wait person.
The house spicy soup base was decent (I had to remove the oil, too much). Sukiyaki was really sweet-literally (not a bad thing). The individual pot idea is great for small gatherings where things boil quickly and you don't have to switch utensils because the small plates of meat for me it's just one scope and cooks it all. There was no label on the ice cream so take your best guess.
I had a very unpleasant experience at this restaurant. The service were extremely slow, taking over 40 minutes to deliver only one of the five meats ordered. The seafoods took awhile to arrive, also the dipping sauces from the self-serve bar tasted rotten. The cleanliness of the place was appalling with flies everywhere, creating a highly unhygienic dining environment. Most alarming of all was seeing food intended for customers placed on top of a trash can before they served, which is an unacceptable practice in any restaurant. Unfortunately, the terrible quality of food and lack of cleanliness have left me feeling terribly ill, with diarrhea as I type this. If you value your health and time, I strongly encourage you to avoid dining here.
For the business owner, please make sure the employees are will trained before opening up the restaurant, and be respectful to the customer.
Indeed, I was dining alone for lunch today. 101 Pot was a place I saw online some weeks back and wanted to try. It helped that the weather was so cold, too. Finally stepped in today, and I'm so glad I did! They do use paper plates and bowls, so if you're looking for a more formal setting, this might not be it. I got a bunch of oysters, abalone, mussels, and beef. Although I've been to many other hot pot places in SGV, none of them offer seafood as they do here, with the exception of just fish fillets.
Since I had a choice of two broths, I ordered the sweet and sour and tomato. What's more, I loved how flavorful both of them were. I did not even need to add anything else to either. My only complaint was that the pot is a bit too small to cook many different dishes efficiently, but I guess that's the style they were going for.
I really hope that this place survives. Of course, I would love to come back if craving hot pot and seafood. It was a smart idea to put it in El Monte because this surrounding neighborhood doesn't really have too much Asian food.
